Government authorizes 55,000 euro contract-program for ISOPlexis Gene Bank
The Regional Government has authorized a contract-program and financial contribution of up to 55,000 euros to support the activities of the ISOPlexis Gene Bank at the University of Madeira.
The Council of the Regional Government has authorized the signing of a contract-program with the University of Madeira (UMa) to support the activities of the ISOPlexis Gene Bank. This bank, integrated into the ISOPlexis Center of UMa, houses one of the most representative collections of agrodiversity and plant genetic resources for agriculture and food in Madeira.
The financial support granted will not exceed the amount of €55,000.00 (fifty-five thousand euros) and is intended to ensure the bank's operation in 2026, covering maintenance and operating expenses that are not covered by the university's regular budget or by R&D programs.
The decision was made through Resolution of the Council of the Regional Government No. 821/2026, which recognizes the importance of ISOPlexis for food security, innovation, and the valorization of the regional agricultural and agri-food sectors. The contract-program takes effect from the date of its signing until December 31, 2026.
