The Regional Government of Madeira has granted authorised time off to its workers during the days of the 2026 Madeira Wine Rally. The measure aims to allow employees to attend the event safely and comfortably, recognising its widespread popularity and relevance to the region.
The Regional Government Council Resolution No. 692/2026, approved in plenary on 15 July 2026, establishes the following periods of authorised time off:
The time off applies to workers in services, institutes, and companies under the supervision of the Regional Government. However, the resolution stipulates that services deemed essential must remain operational.
For services that operate continuously or that, for reasons of public interest, must work on those days, the resolution determines that conditions must be created for the respective workers to enjoy the granted time off at a later date, subject to agreement from their hierarchical superiors.
The Madeira Wine Rally is described in the document as one of the region's biggest sporting and popular events, mobilising thousands of people and contributing significantly to the dynamism of the local economy in the summer.
