Sighting at the Port of Funchal
On the afternoon of June 27, 2025, a seal was observed resting on the access ramp to the Lobo Marinho ship, just moments before its departure to Porto Santo.

Teams from the Forests and Nature Conservation Institute arrived at the site to assess the condition of the animal. According to the technicians, the seal was in good health, merely resting, with no signs of stress or injuries.

Since May, a young seal, affectionately named “Marina” by locals, has been sighted in various areas of Funchal, including bathing zones and the marina, adapting to artificial platforms and approaching people.
